The European Commission has published Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1434, which replaces Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1533 and updates the applicable design, construction, performance and testing requirements for marine equipment under Directive 2014/90/EU (MED).
DBI Certification A/S has completed a review of the new Regulation against all MED product areas within our accredited accreditation scope.
For the majority of products certified by DBIC, no action is required.
The review confirms that there are no changes to conformity assessment modules and no new technical requirements affecting most of the MED product areas covered by DBIC.
Existing MED certificates remain valid and are not affected solely by the publication of the new Implementing Regulation.
A limited number of product areas require attention for future certification activities:
The Regulation clarifies the certification approach for replacement parts supplied for existing ship installations. Manufacturers of replacement parts should ensure that the original approval basis and product traceability can be documented.
The previous transitional certification basis has expired. New certification activities should be based on the current standards specified in Regulation (EU) 2026/1434.
The oldest historical transitional certification basis has been removed from the Regulation. Future certification activities should use the currently applicable standards specified in the Implementing Regulation.
